Premier Inn Frankfurt Messe May 2019

I’ve stayed here twice now, both on a Sunday evening. This time I paid under 50 Euros for the night (including breakfast). The hotel is a bit of a walk from the train station, and it’s not easy or particularly pleasant to do with suitcases. The hotel is near a shopping centre (skyline Plaza) and the Messe Frankfurt.   The area is not a very interesting area to potter around and it seems to cater predominantly to people visiting the Messe. There are a few of restaurants along the street but there wasn’t much else to keep me entertained in the local area. The room was great and really great value for money. Service brilliant and friendly as Premier Inn almost always is. Value for money: 10 Location: 6 Room: 10 Would I stay again: Yes

Hilton Gatwick May 2019

I booked this room at the last minute due to a cancelled easyJet flight. The room cost around £100 on a Sunday night. It’s a nice but pretty big hotel and as such, the queue for the reception can be long. It’s a better than average Hilton. I had a drink in the bar which was relatively quiet but not cheap nor desperately exciting. There is a small gym. The big selling point of this hotel is that you can walk there from the terminal building. That said, it’s not a short walk and if I had have had a choice I’d go for the Premier Inn at other terminal as its normally cheaper and quality is consistent. The signage from the terminal isn’t great and it did take me a while to find it even though I have stayed there before. Value for money: 6 Location: 7 Room: 7  Would I stay again: Yes

International Hotel Wembley May 2019

Another London stay and another day at a Wembley hotel. Not only is Wembley relatively cheap when there are no big events on at the stadium or the arena, its also quite a short journey into Central London on the Jubilee line (although it gets very busy in the morning coming into London) The hotel looks shabby from outside and in. It is cluttered and feels very dated and in need of refurbishment. The room was OK and pretty large but the staff weren’t particularly welcoming at reception. Value for money: 7 Location: 6 Room: 5  Would I stay again: Only if other places were much cheaper

St George Hotel Wembley April 2019

A small hotel just five minutes walk from Wembley Stadium but a decent twenty minute walk from Wembley Park Station (ie not close!) When I stay in London I tend to stay in some of the cheapest hotels I can find. And Wembley isn’t a bad area to find cheap hotels on non-event days. I managed to get this hotel for around £60. The room seemed pleasant and was decorated in a modern style. I wasn’t in the hotel for a long time though, having arrived after 10pm leaving early in the morning after a run around the stadium. Value for money: 8 Location: 6 Room: 7  Would I stay again: Yes

Motel One Brussels March 2019

I’ve stayed here a few times as its very good value for money, clean and modern This modern chain hotel is located between the town centre and the European Institutions and just across from Parc de Bruxelles which is a perfect place for some morning circuits. There are some nice restaurants hidden on the streets opposite the hotel (Rue de l’Enseignement and Rue de la Croix de Fer) although the best one or two sometimes needs to be booked in advance. The queue for reception was long but the staff were very friendly. Breakfast is a fairly typical Brussels buffet but good value for money. It can however get very busy so its best to try and avoid peak times. Value for money: 9 Location: 8  Room: 7  Would I stay again: Yes

Easy Hotel Croydon July 2019

This isn't the most glamorous hotel in London. Nor even in Croydon. Its an old office block with the top four or so floors converted into small bedrooms. I visited twice in two weeks. It is in a great location just across the road from East Croydon station - which is an easy journey into Central London or beyond. There is a Sainsbury's supermarket open early til late just around the corner. It can be very good value for money. On a few occasions I've paid less than £30 which is very cheap for a place 20 minutes from the city. On these trips. reception were very friendly and welcoming (although I don't know why they insist on ID given lots of more expensive hotels don't ask). The corridor smelt a little but the room was clean. I was put into an accessible room which is twice the size of a normal room. The normal sized rooms are pretty tiny but OK for a one night stay. There are no real facilities in the room. No TV but you can purchase a wif...

Arora Hotel Gatwick Crawley March 2019

I stayed in the Arora hotel on return from a trip abroad. The hotel is adjacent to Crawley train station and there is a gate/bell to allow you to get direct to the hotel from the platform.  Crawley station is just one stop from Gatwick so it's in a decent location for a flight. Its probably quicker to get a train from Crawley into Gatwick than it is to stay at an airport hotel closer to Gatwick and have to wait for a taxi or shuttle bus.  The hotel is also only a short walk from the theatre and from the town centre.  Its a fairly standard airport hotel. Not particularly attractive but functional.  The staff were nice and the room was big. We didn't eat but the menu in the restaurant looked better than similar sorts of hotels. The room was big and clean. There was air conditioning but it didn't seem to do anything so it was a little warm.  The room was good value for money and i booked through Hotels.com. When Gatwick is quiet (Sunday nights typic...

Cosmo Hotel Hong Kong March 2019

Image
I spent 8 days at the Cosmo Hotel in March 2019, booking through Hotels.com The hotel is in a great location on the edge of Wan Chai and not too far from the local metro station.  Wan Chai is a great area of town with lots of affordable local restaurants. If you want expensive shops and trendy restaurants go for Central. But for a more affordable (and interesting) area then this is perfect. Its a few steps from the Happy Valley racecourse (races every Wednesday evening and just a dollar or two to get into the terraces). The Happy Valley racecourse is also a great place to do some exercise and is open from early morning until late evening and there is a running track which can be used for free. The hotel offers a free shuttle service to other shopping areas in the town but if you are willing to walk then the island isnt actually that big!. Use the Citymapper app for real time information. There is a bus stop just outside the hotel which takes you to the main station for the t...
